Friday

It's been a busy week, but it's finally Friday, so that alone is something to smile about. But here are a few other things I'm liking these days....

Today is my sister's birthday - Happy birthday Soph! I can't wait until Sunday when we can enjoy the nice weather, play Bocce ball, (we are serious bocce ballers) and go out to dinner. Tonight she is having a sleepover with some girl friends.

Summer's almost here and this PB & chocolate ice cream looks divine....

These Grandmother Tips made me chuckle....

I popped into Madewell yesterday and picked up this top which has been on my wishlist for some time...perfect for work under a blazer, or with boyfriend jeans and heels/skinny jeans and flats for a casual date night...

Perfect fashion jewelery inspiration...

The perfect watch...

I need to get more crafty. This is the coolest globe...

Wise words from one of my favorites...

Let’s borrow life preservers and jump over.
I think we should do something spectacular.
I feel that all our lives have been too restrained.

Writer's block:

lack of motivation or inspiration: the act of trying to conjure up thoughts or make sense of feelings, but failing miserably.

Most of the time, I log on here, ramble a bit, and hit "publish" before I even have time to proofread, for fear that I'll censor myself or judge my own words. Other times, I don't post at all because I have nothing of importance to share. I often bore myself with my own jumbled thoughts. But, I am a person who needs to write, who needs to think critically, and who needs to communicate articulately, (in my personal life for that's who I am, and in my professional life as per my job description) so when words fail me, I feel betrayed.

We all have tried to "cure" writer's block through various means, but my friend and fellow Blogger/English Nerd/Writer/Teacher Mia has a different remedy, stemming from the below poem, that I will surely need in the near future. I owe her. And her writing, though always great, is flawless in this post of hers, I encourage you to click through to her blog :)

8 Count   [C. Bukowski]

from my bed
I watch
3 birds
on a telephone
wire.
one flies
off.
then
another.
one is left,
then
it too
is gone.
my typewriter is
tombstone
still.
and I am
reduced to bird
watching.
just thought I’d
let you
know,
fucker.

Happy Birthday Farah

They say when you write, you should keep one or two people in mind, so your voice stays consistent. My dear Farah was the one who inspired me to write this blog, so I write for her (I have found this to be very useful; I have many "voices" and trying to stay consistent is always a challenge because, to put it simply, I'm a crazy person). She knows me and the many sides of my personality well, so she seemed to be the ideal audience. Farah has taught me how to be a good friend; one that is caring, silly, respectful and most of all, thoughtful. She reminds me that being a girl isn't a bad thing, that I should try it almost daily, and that being feminine doesn't mean you're weak, (as I previously thought) often it proves just how strong you are. Farah is the only person I know who's cravings drive her to mango and not chocolate dipped in peanut butter or something else equally as sinful and delicious. She showed me that there is truth behind the old adage, "laughing so hard you pee your pants." Honestly, I've seen her do it, more than once. But it is her genuine love for life that allows her such happiness and today, she celebrates being another year older, and I can only hope, another year happier.

Wild Kingdom

I've always been a fan of animals but since we went to the Bronx Zoo in December, I've been into wild safari animals, (I could also be getting inspiration from my boyfriend who loves lions and is "really into monkeys recently"). I really do wish that when I did my basement remodel I decorated the bathroom with a zoo animal theme. Next time. I have though, been letting wildlife inspire some of my recent fashion choices.

Elephants...

Recently bought this necklace from JCREW... I've wanted it for a while and finally broke down and got it!

This Essie nail polish, "smokin hot" has been on my nails for weeks and it's elephant inspired...

Zebras....
Anyone who knows me well, knows that I wear a ton of stripes...most of the time I think my stripes are inspired my nautical settings and classic tomboy cool...but they could very easily be influenced by these horses of the the wild.

Giraffes...
These animals don't really inspire any prints, (I typically stay away from wearing prints) but this is cute decor for the home...I don't know why I like them so much...

I have kind of a long neck...yet I never wear my hair up. With the warm weather coming, I should really think about messy up-dos (damn, rock that up-do!) with earrings, inspired by the elegant giraffe

Lions...

These pictures are mainly just an excuse to post content that may grab my boyfriend's attention (gotta keep him reading some how) but I could stretch the inspiration to maybe finally embrace my wavy, hard-to-tame hair...maybe?

PS, really just posted this picture because I mean...I would never but...yeah...

Also, my usual obsession with button up shirts and dresses are safari inspired. I just love how easy it is to pull on a button-up, fitted in all the right places, with jeans, (dark, light, skinny, flared) dress it up, or dress it down with sneakers, boots, heels, and the right jewelry.
