Summer Lovin' - Part 2

On some of these rainy spring-almost-summer days and nights, the perfect way to pass the time is to pop in some quintessential summer movies. To qualify as a "summer movie," it must be relatively mindless, nostalgic, and of course, funny.

The Classic Summer Flick:
1) Wet Hot American Summer. This is by far my favorite summer movie. Nothing beats an all-star cast at a 1980's summer camp...except for maybe writing in your g*ournal

The "this is the last day of school and we may never see each other again so we've got to party" Flick:
2) Can't Hardly Wait is what started the raucous teen movie craze
3) Dazed and Confused just proves I should have been born in another decade
4) Grease. Growing up, a lot of the sexual innuendos went over my head, but I mean, a hickie from Kenicki is like a Hallmark card

The "we're so bored because there's nothing to do so we fill our days by getting into mischief" Flick:
5) The Sandlot, if you don't like this movie, you're killin me smalls
6) Now & Then, one of the only movies in the sub-genre tailed for girls...truth or dare?
7) Stand By Me, when the answer to any of life's question is "cherry flavored pez" you can't go wrong

The summer Blockbuster I'm most looking forward to seeing: The Dark Knight Rises

And of course, it wouldn't be summer without packing the car with friends and snacks and going to see a double feature at the Drive-In

Summer Lovin - Part 1

It's Wednesday, so that means I've hit the mid-week slump. My coffee is taking too long to kick in, the humid weather is making me feel sluggish, and students are uncooperative due to their own Wednesday woes. When these forces join together, I look towards the weekend to keep me motivated over the next three days. This weekend, on top of it being an extra day long, I have a trip to Long Island to look forward to.

Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer, (no sense waiting until school is out at the end of June, that makes the summer seem to short) so every year my college friends and I make a trip out to LI to celebrate Laura's birthday. This year we are spending the day at the beach and going out for some happy hour drinks and dinner.

Kicking off the summer this weekend inspired me to write a series of posts dedicated to how much I love this warm weather season.

Striped Dresses & Floppy Hats.
Though stripes are a fashion staple for me all year long, floppy hats are something new to me, but I couldn't resist this year.

Personal look inspired by JCREW
(I actually have a dress similar to this from JCREW, but it's a tank top and has olive green stripes)

I wear my sunglasses at night.

Great investment, but they don't always get worn to the beach. I love them too much.

Orange shorts. My new staple.

Chucks are great all year round, but my white ones come out in the summer time.
